Chinedu Okonya returned an interception for a touchdown as Riverdale held Spalding to 57 yards of offense en route to a 21-0 victory at Southern Crescent Stadium on Thursday.

Troy Wyche and Asania Aderhold, who also passed for 216 yards, rushed for short touchdowns for the Raiders, who improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in sub-region 4B-AAAA.

With the win, Riverdale bounced back from last week’s 35-14 setback to Griffin and recorded its second shutout of the season.

Thanks to short catches and long runs by Kamhad Magwood and Rashad Canty, the Raiders were able to overcome a slow start by the offense. Magwood caught five passes for 109 yards and Canty had three receptions for 78 yards.

Deon Jones also had an interception for the Raiders’ defense, which allowed just two first downs and none in the second half.

First Quarter:

RHS: Okonya 16-yard interception return for touchdown (Canty kick), 2:48

Third Quarter:

RHS: Wyche 1-yard run (kick failed), 2:16

Fourth Quarter:

RHS: Aderhold 3-yard run (Aderhold pass to Canty for two-point conversion), 11:51
