At its monthly lunch meeting Monday, the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs honored Sandy Springs fire, police and emergency medi-cal services.

Sandy Springs Police Chief Terry Sult named Shelly Weed as the 2012 police officer of the year.

Sult said it was hard to only pick one officer to honor, because they all did an outstanding job but chose Weed because of her opti-mistic attitude.

“She always has a positive personality,” said Sult. “A lot of times, you get a little disgruntled as a police officer, but she never does.”

The chief named Craig Chandler as police commander of the year and Beverly Moore as police civilian employee of the year.

Sult said Chandler was honored because of his informal leadership skills and leadership of a special investigation unit he com-mands.

Moore was recognized because of her positive attitude and work ethic in the Georgia Crime Information Center department.

“She’s really one of the anchor people there,” said Sult. “Every time I walk through the door, it’s ‘What can I do to help you?’”

Fire Chief Jack McElfish named Capt. Philip Adams as the 2012 police commander of the year.

He honored Shannon Cichosz as paramedic of the year and Stacy Ray Bailey as firefighter of the year.

“Seventy-seven percent of our instances are EMS calls,” said McElfish of the city’s EMS services. “We have one of the best surviv-ability rates.”

This was the first year a fire fighter was honored at the awards ceremony.

“Stacy is just one of our great people,” said McElfish. “He is a good fire fighter and a good person.”

McElfish also honored and presented Mark E. Ware with the 2011 fire officer of the year award, as he was unable to attend last year’s ceremony.
