Sydney Cooper needs two more wins to punctuate her Woodward Academy volleyball career with three state championships.

The goal will be complete if the Lady War Eagles defeat St. Pius at home Wednesday and the winner of the Blessed Trinity-Oconee matchup at Marietta High School on Saturday.

As a result of Cooper becoming an even better middle hitter and blocker, Woodward has a 40-13 overall record and a chance to win its fourth title in five years.

“I like blocking,” Cooper said. “I think its fun to just stuff a ball down someone’s face. It’s the fastest position on the court. You have to be the fastest out of everyone.”

Also because of her individual skills, the 6-foot Cooper will play at Louisville next year.

“I chose Louisville because of coaching and because of the sense of community they have within Louisville itself,” Cooper said. “It’s a college city and I’m really excited about the girls joining the program that are in my class.”

Cooper, who was named one of’s 250 Senior Aces, has a 3.6 grade-point average and plans to double major in business and visual arts.

After the season, Cooper said there is a good chance she will play for A-5 to continue preparing for college volleyball.
