The football standout plays both ways for the Wolverines, impacting games as a fullback and defensive lineman.
“He would play special teams if I let him,” said Union Grove coach Paul Burgdorf. “He’s got a good motor ... he doesn’t come out of the ball game very many snaps, doesn’t like to.”
On offense, the 6 foot, 270-pound senior’s blocking ability has contributed to the team’s leading rusher amassing over 1,000 yards on the ground this season.
Vaughn has wreaked as much, if not more, havoc on opposing ball carriers and passers as the leader of the team’s defensive front four. Heading into Union Grove’s game against Mundy’s Mill, he had registered four and half sacks, 10 quarterback pressures and 33 total tackles while forcing three fumbles on the season.
Wolverines coaches lauded Vaughn’s impressive skill set, including quick feet and explosiveness. They speak just as highly about his intangibles.
“As a whole, our team has matured a lot,” Burgdorf said. “I think Tyler has been an important leader in that maturation process.”
Thanks in part to Vaughn’s efforts, Union Grove will look to continue to turn even more heads this season.
