Interestingly, once Willie Cannon discovered the best position for junior Keion Davis was running back, Langston Hughes ended up clinching its best record in four seasons of existence and first region championship.

As a result of Davis rushing for 122 yards and Kenny Moxey passing for 255 yards and a touchdown in a 17-13 victory over Tri-Cities last Friday, the Panthers won the Region 3-AAAAAA title while improving to 4-0 in league play.

“I have been very impressed with Keion’s play this season at running back,” said Cannon before Friday’s game. “It has taken me three years to finally figure out what is Keion’s best position on the football field. He is such a good athlete that he can play anywhere on the field and excel.”

Davis attributed some of his success as an effective runner to his 6-foot-1 frame and the rest to his offensive line.

“They make the blocks and I score,” Davis said. “That is how I look out for the team.”

“He is in his first full season at the starting running back position so I only see him getting better with additional carries,” Cannon said.

Langston Hughes has won six straight games and hosts winless Westlake this Friday.
