What started out as a simple business plan has blossomed into a multi-million dollar partnership that will have a far-reaching affect not just for Bartow County, but the entire state of Georgia.
Hundreds turned out for a groundbreaking ceremony Nov.1 at the Emerson site at 733 Highway 273 and moving forward, the project will change the landscape of the local community.
“The impact is going to be incredible,” said Emerson mayor Al Pallone.
The more than 1,200-acre development is located in Emerson and will feature state-of-the-art venues for more than 20 of America’s favorite sports, and 5 million square feet of mixed-use development consisting of commercial, retail and entertainment options.
The project is expected to generate about 26,000 jobs and generate $1 billion.
Gov. Nathan Deal, who was in attendance at the groundbreaking, said the complex is the “biggest of its kind in the world.”
“That is a great distinction to have,” Deal said.
Deal said LakePoint could have an economic impact on the entire state.
“The dollars that will be generated here will not only be for the benefit of the local community, it will benefit the entire state of Georgia because that’s where the revenue will go,” Deal said.
Former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox, who is a partner in the project, said the project means so much.
“I am a Bartow County resident and I certainly know what this project means to the county,” Cox said. “We’ve seen some good times in Bartow and we’ve seen recently some tough times and hopefully, I know this project will bring back the good times.”
LakePoint currently has seven tenants. They include: Perfect Game USA, the number one baseball scouting organization in America, North Atlanta Soccer Association, one of the largest soccer clubs in Georgia, LB3 Lacrosse, a leading provider of camps and tournaments for girls and boys lacrosse, The Miracle League, one of America’s largest outdoor retailers, one of the world’s most renowned orthopedic surgeons and the Mini-America Theme Park
“We have long-term leases with these companies,” LakePoint Sports co-CEO and partner Earl Ehrhart. “We have great associations with some of the top sports companies in the country. We’re thrilled to be associated with these individuals.
