Chamblee’s Jordan Branch is a difference maker on the gridiron.

The senior quarterback has excelled in his first season behind center, leading the Bulldogs to an 8-1 record and on the verge of the playoffs.

“As soon as I took over the [head coaching] job, I knew who was going to be our quarterback,” said Chamblee coach Allen Johnson.

Johnson had already seen what Branch was capable of during Johnson’s time coaching Branch — who goes 6 foot 1, 175 pounds these days — on the ninth grade football team.

“He’s not the biggest kid in the world, but he’s smart,” said the coach of his signal caller. “He’s an awesome athlete … and his football IQ is pretty up there.”

Branch has rewarded his coach’s faith in him by turning in a slew of stellar on-field performances this season. His highlights include a four-touchdown effort against Lithonia.

Then there was the game versus Stone Mountain when Branch shook off injury to lead the Bulldogs to a come-from-behind win.

“We were losing 14-10 at halftime … I told him to suit up,” Johnson recalled. “He went out, put the team on his back and we scored another 20 points just because of him.”

Look for Branch to try to end his prep career in style by taking the Bulldogs to even greater heights.
