Marist's Jason Morris
Marist’s Jason Morris is the quintessential student-athlete.

The senior middle linebacker is leaving his imprint both on the gridiron and in the classroom.

“Academically, he’s off the charts,” said War Eagles coach Alan Chadwick. “He’s a really top-notch kid.”

Morris, a converted fullback, has started every game this season at mike linebacker. His steady play has been key, including his double digit-tackles night in a second round playoff win over Carrollton.

“His being out there kind of helps pull our defense together, fortifies it,” said Chadwick. “He shuts down a lot of inside runs.

“He’s powerful and strong, a good hitter.”

When the War Eagles season ends, Morris will hang up his jersey and cleats for good.

“He’s going on to Vanderbilt [University],” said Chadwick. “He’s going to be a doctor one day.”

In the meantime, Morris and company have a golden opportunity to go out on top. Two more wins and they will be celebrating a GHSA Class AAAA championship.

Look for Morris to continue to go about his business on the field.

“He’s a vocal leader for us on defense,” said Chadwick. “He’s well respected by teammates for his work ethic, dedication and toughness … just a physical, durable kid.”
