Henry County High hoops standout Kionna Coleman is poised for another stellar year.

The senior small forward turned in the type of stat line — 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists — in a pre-season scrimmage against Lakeview Academy that Lady Hawks fans grew accustomed to last season. They and opposing teams can expect more of the same in 2012-13.

The 5 foot 8 Coleman, a three-year starter, is also the team’s returning leading scorer.

“She’s our go-to girl,” said Lady Hawks coach Carl Caputa. “She’s quick and a decent ball handler.”

“She can score off the dribble, she can score with her jump shot,” he added. “She’s also the key to our pressure defense … she’s just a complete player.”

Henry County will again be relying on the dynamic Coleman to have another big season. The team is aiming to return to the GHSA tournament.

For all her physical gifts, Coleman’s intangible qualities will be just as in demand.

“She’s stepped up in terms of leadership,” said Caputa. “She’s a quiet leader … we’ve been developing her for a couple years now to take over that role.”

The Lady Hawks, granted the exclusive opportunity to see Coleman’s game and work every day, would do well to follow her lead.
