The senior has been especially key during the Jaguars’ postseason run. Jones has rushed for nearly 300 yards and four touchdowns through the first two rounds of the GHSA Class 5-A playoffs.
Judging by the type of season that he’s had, Stephenson’s remaining opponent(s) would be wise to brace themselves for more encore performances.
“He’s been valuable to us, for sure,” said Jaguars coach Ron Gartrell of Jones. “He brings that break-away threat … he’s had some big homeruns as a punt returner and kick returner and had big runs from scrimmage.”
One of those runs came in last week’s 35-6 victory over East Paulding. Jones broke free for a 55-yard score that ignited visiting Stephenson’s second half onslaught.
“Evan brings some excitement … that ability to get us back in the game or close out the game when we’re ahead,” Gartrell said.
Jones, who has surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in all-purpose yards, will surely be called upon to keep delivering the goods for a team in search of a state championship.
Thus, look for him to add more footage to an already impressive 2012 personal highlight reel.
