Brandon Robinson has loved the sport of baseball since he was 3 years old.

Next month, the Arlington Christian student will have the opportunity to fulfill a dream and take his skills to the next level — participating as an Under Armour All-American in a pre-season tournament.

The tournament, to be held Jan. 18 to 20 in Tucson, Ariz., allows top high school students from all over the country the chance to compete against one another and clinch a spot in the Road to Wrigley Field and the All-American Game, all held later in the year.

The tournament is apart of Under Armour’s overarching baseball factory program.

When Robinson first learned of his acceptance, he was thrilled.

“I was overwhelmed with excitement and just happy,” he said. “I’m hoping to enhance my skills and get experience playing with the best players in the country.”

Criteria for selection for the pre-season tournament include strong performance at a previous Under Armour event or recommendation by one of the pro scouts.

At the tournament, players will compete against one another in a 20-team wood bat succession of games.

Each team will be broken up based on region to compete for the championship game.

All players will also have the opportunity to rotate into a pro-style workout.

Additionally, all participants, like Robinson, will receive their own page on the baseball factory website, which will include video footage and a personal evaluation from a professional scout.

In the past two years alone, pro scouts from 23 of the 30 Major League baseball teams have attended the event.

Interaction with baseball professionals will not be new to Robinson.

“I have trained with major league baseball player Brandon Phillips and his brother, Jamil,” said Robinson.

Phillips currently plays for the Cincinnati Reds.

Robinson looks forward to the tournament.

“I’m trying to move to the next level which is college baseball,” he said.

He hopes to either attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Georgia or Georgia State University, which are his top picks for their respective baseball programs.
