The Outpost Opry is set to present its Christmas special, “Santa Claus Boogie,” at the Nashville in the Country Theater Saturday at 2 p.m.
The show will feature classic Christmas songs, and some original comical numbers, with George Price performing as Santa Claus, said Opry host Joey Garland.
“George Price is a professional Santa as well as an all star musician and entertainer. His playing style will have you off your seat,” Garland said.
Price is a pleaser for the children as well as parents, said Garland. He will be performing his own renditions of “Silent Night” and “The Thrill Is Gone” and a Bruce Springsteen-style version of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.”
“If you see George Price live you have not just seen a concert, you have had an experience,” Garland said.
Price has been playing the guitar since 1968, and has been performing as Santa since 2007, he said. He has been a professional musician since 1973, and has even attended a school to learn how to be the best Santa possible, he said.
“Being Santa is an iconic role,” Price said.
Price will also be walking around meeting the children after the show.
Outpost Opry is a country music variety show which is performed monthly at the theater on Red Mountain Road off U.S. Hwy. 278 near Paulding Airport.
Garland said the Opry is like shows found in Pigeon Forge and Myrtle Beach.
“Take the Grand Ole Opry, ‘Hee-Haw’ and the Marty Stuart Show mix them in a bowl together, and then put it in the oven at 350 degrees, and you get the Outpost Opry,” Garland said.
Outpost Opry has been in business for three and a half years, and have been at the Dallas location for one year, Garland said.
The Opry features award winning vocalist Raquel Rae, Country Hall-of-Famer Mike Brookshire, Hall of Fame steel player Bill Ferguson and comedian William H. Bass, said Garland. Also the Country Classic Cloggers will be performing.
