At the forefront of their up-tempo attack is sophomore Courtney Colavito, a 5-foot point guard that serves as a one-man press break for head coach Barney Marchand’s squad.
“She is a very unselfish player that controls the tempo, but more importantly, she can single handedly break any press with her dribbling skills,” said the Johns Creek coach before noting that point guard play is the biggest difference between this years’ squad and the school’s first three teams — which won 5, 2 and 12 games respectively.
“Through the first three seasons every team would put a relentless full court press on our team and we struggled getting the ball past half court. However, when Courtney arrived last season she was able to control the speed of the game and helped us to a school record in wins,” said the Johns Creek coach.
Behind Colavito’s seven points, four assists, three steals and uncanny ability to handle the rock, Johns Creek is heading into the holiday break this year with a winning record and on track to reach their team goal of 15 wins and first state playoff berth in team history.
“As long as Courtney is healthy and on the court, those goals are attainable,” said Marchand.
