Friedman won the Class A private school individual title with a time of 15 minutes, 50.45 seconds, and Flowers finished fourth in the AA race at 17:49.90 at the state meet in Carrollton last month.
The Westminster coaching staff of Joe Tribble, Geoffrey Sudderth and Sofia Walcott were named male co-coaches of the year, along with Marist coaches Eric Heintz, Kevin Lisle and Meredith Denning and St. Pius X coaches Ryan McClay, Kirk Miller and Mike Demerest.
Tribble, Sudderth and Walcott led the Westminster boys to the Class AA team championship, while Heintz, Lisle and Denning coached Marist to the AAAA title and McClay, Miller and Demerest guided St. Pius to the AAA crown.
St. Pius runners Austin Sprague and Calvin Tirrell and Marist’s Michael Thurston were also chosen to the male All-Metro team, while St. Pius’ Devon Dabney and Marist’s Morgan Ilse were tabbed for the female team.
Thurston and Sprague won the AAAA and AAA boys’ individual championships, respectively, with Tirrell the AAA runner-up.
Ilse was the AAAA girls’ individual champion, while Dabney placed runner-up in AAA.
Heintz, Lisle and Denning, who also coached the Marist girls to the AAAA crown, were selected as female co-coaches of the year, along with Debbie Guilbeau of AAA state champions St. Pius.
