Weber’s boys’ basketball team has had any number of players step up in the early part of the 2012-13 season.

The last couple of games, however, have been Eliot Zerden’s time to shine.

The 6-foot-2 senior forward came through with his best performance of the season when he scored 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Weber to a 69-59 victory over North Atlanta Flight Dec. 10.

That came soon after Zerden led the Rams with 14 points in their 53-25 win over Holy Spirit Prep Dec. 6.

Zerden’s offensive prowess has been a big reason for Weber’s impressive start, with the Rams at 6-3 through Thursday.

“Eliot brings a lot on offense for us,” Weber coach Peter Weprinsky said. “He’s got an excellent shot and he’s also strong in the open court. He’s a good finisher and he drives the basket well. He has a good mid-range game and you don’t see that too much anymore.”

Zerden also is a key member of the Weber boys’ track and field team, finishing seventh in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump at the GISA state meet last spring.
