In the past week, head coach Larell Lewis, felt there was one person who shined brightest on the court, Jenny Vernet.
Vernet is a senior, plays at the center and power forward positions and stands 6-foot-1.
Averaging 20 points and 15 rebounds a night, Vernet is one of the highest scorers on the team this year.
According to Lewis, her best game was the 43-39 victory over Villa Rica on Dec. 20. That night Vernet scored 22 points for the Patriots.
“She’s aggressive on both ends of the ball,” said Lewis.
Vernet’s post play has improved since she began playing there a year and a half ago.
“She has improved drastically in her post play. She can now finish with her left or right hand which is a positive for the team,” Lewis said.
While Vernet may be a dominant player on the court, Lewis said she is a “gentle giant” because she appears quiet and soft-spoken.
With such a small voice, Vernet leads by example, not yelling, the coach said. She does, however, have the “personality and attitude of a winner.”
“She’s like my right hand man, or right hand woman. She’s always helping everyone,” Lewis said.
