The move will occur on Jan. 11, and customers will begin receiving services at the new location on Monday, Jan. 14.
“Due to the large volume of customers that we receive each day, we wanted to make most of the move occur over a weekend to avoid inconveniencing the public,” said Richard McLeod, Alpharetta’s Director of Community Development. “Unfortunately, customers should anticipate limited services being available on Friday, Jan. 11.”
Alpharetta’s Community Development Department provides a wide array of public services including enforcement of zoning and development codes, issuing building permits and business licenses, enforcing sign and property maintenance codes, and coordinating the city’s short and long-term land use planning efforts.
The department has operated out of leased space in a shopping plaza for many years.
Its current lease has expired, and the new building owner is planning to make changes to the building that require the city to move out.
“The new owner informed us that we needed to be out of our current location by March 1,” explained McLeod. “While we had hoped to remain in our current location until the new City Hall is completed, that simply was not possible.”
Many of the city’s functions, including community development, will be moved into the new City Hall that is being constructed as part of Alpharetta’s City Center Project.
Plans call for that facility to be opened in the summer of 2014.
“Until then we will provide our full menu of community development services from the 217 Roswell Street building, just down the street from our current location,” said McLeod.
No changes will occur to telephone numbers or email addresses for Alpharetta’s community development staff.
