Now, the 6-foot-3 junior is playing a key role for the school’s boys’ basketball team.
Selmon, in his first full year on the Pace varsity, is among the leading scorers on the team with seven points a game.
He stepped up to the forefront at the St. Francis Shootout in late December, averaging 15.5 points to lead the Knights to the tournament title.
Selmon scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals to lead Pace to a 64-59 victory over St. Francis in the championship game Dec. 22 after scoring 13 points in a 68-52 semifinal win over Parkview Dec. 21.
Pace coach Demetrius Smith said Selmon brings a strong all-around game as well as the speed he displays on the track.
“Kenny has speed and quickness,” Smith said. “He brings a lot of athleticism to us. He gets a lot of steals and rebounds and he shoots the ball well.”
