The mercurial senior point guard has posted solid numbers in this, his first season as a starter.
“He’s a good kid and a hard-nosed competitor — he loves to compete,” said Bulldogs coach Terry Herrod. “He works hard, he’s a solid defender and shoots the ball extremely well.
“Out of all the kids, I’ve asked him to do the most … and he’s responded.”
And then some. The 5 foot 9 Hobbs is averaging 11 points, four assists and three rebounds per game.
An “extremely” quick sharpshooter, Hobbs has also managed to become a steadying presence on a ball-club that has finally seemed to find its rhythm.
Chalk that up to a couple more intangibles — grit and determination — his coach says.
“If you’re ever in a foxhole, he’s the kind of kid you want to have there with you,” Herrod said. “If he plays well, we play well … as he goes, we go as a team.”
