Girl Scouts around the country have now started taking orders for the Girl Scout cookies. Two local troops are selling cookies to travel in the future.

Emma Kate Sellers, 12, a member of Troop 3980 in Sandy Springs and a seventh-grader at Atlanta Girls’ School in Buckhead, went with her troop to Savannah last year, home of Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low.

Sellers has been involved in Girl Scouts since the second grade.

Her goal this year is to sell 150 boxes. The girls are saving up to go on another trip in a couple of years, but the destination is still to be determined.

This year, the scouts are selling six kinds of cookies – thin mints, samoas, tagalongs, trefoils, do-si-dos and Savannah smiles.

Sellers plans to call on past customers to meet her goal.

“I like getting people over time that I know that will buy from me, like my neighbors,” she said. “I also like booth sales, because you can sell cookies with a friend.”

Girl Scouts in the metro area will begin hosting booth sales Feb. 11. Boxes will sell for $3.50 each this year.

Members of Troop 25309, based at Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Buckhead, are selling cookies to raise money for a trip to a Girl Scout chalet in the Alps of Adelboden, Switzerland.

Four girls — Ellie Whelan, Andi Rozzelle, Natalie Casal and Riley Hooper — will most likely be able to pay for the whole trip, which they plan to take over the July 4 weekend, by selling cookies.

To pay for the trip, the girls had to sell about 3,000 boxes each. Most of the girls are about halfway to reaching their goal.

“We have to pay for the program, flights, spending money,” said Casal, 13. “No one believes me when I say I’m saving up for Switzerland.”

The girls have been learning about Europe in social studies recently, creating more excitement for the trip.

“I’m excited to go. I’ve never been to Europe before,” said Rozzelle, 13.

Chalet activities include hiking in the Alps, eating chocolate, going to a cheese maker’s hut and repelling down a mountain, according to the girls.

The girls will be hosting booth sales, which can be found on the Cookie Locater App for Android and iPhone. The app is free and allows users to find cookies by zip code or using the phone’s GPS location.
