The Southwest Atlanta Christian Lady Warriors proved to Darlington how dangerous they can be when focused.

Alexis Carter had 20 points, 10 steals and eight rebounds in SACA’s 68-35 home victory against Darlington on Saturday.

Amber Brown scored 15 points and Marquita Daniels, who had 11 steals, and Amy Griffin added 14 points apiece for the Lady Warriors, who forced 43 turnovers en route to their eighth consecutive win.

“We had to get revenge because the last game we didn’t show up ready play,” said Carter, who was referring to the Lady Warriors’ one-point setback to Darlington in January.

“When we played them in Rome, the same team that played today didn’t show up,” SACA coach Jackie Cowan said. “I think we were mentally not ready because we had just come off a win over Wesleyan.”

(Last season, Wesleyan defeated SACA by double digits for the Class A title.)

From the opening tip, the Lady Warriors displayed their superiority, forcing turnover after turnover and converting the Lady Tigers’ miscues into easy points.

“Marquita and Alexis bring a tremendous force for us because when we need to get blocks, rebounds and steals, we get it from them,” Cowan said. “They both came to play today which is what we needed.”

As a result, SACA scored the first 11 points of the game and led 22-16 at the end of the first quarter. Darlington would pull within two early in the second quarter but the Lady Warriors’ would rebuild their lead to 15 points at the break.

SACA extended its margin to 22 at the close of the third period and never looked back.

“We had a goal to come in pressure, attack and take care of business on the other end,” Cowan said. “When we can do that we can be effective but when we don’t we’re not effective.”

With their fifth straight double-digit victory, the Lady Warriors improved to 22-2 overall and 10-1 in sub-region 6A-A. They concluded the regular season this Friday against Christian Heritage before the region tournament at Mt. Paran next week.
