Unlike Robert Nkemdiche (Grayson), Montravius Adams (Dooly County), Vonn Bell (Ridgeland) or Alvin Kamara (Norcross), the majority of the highly-touted football players from Clayton County have a pretty good idea where they will play Division-I football so today – National Signing Day – shouldn’t offer many surprises.

According to, the Lovejoy Wildcats, last season’s Class AAAAAA runner-up, have the most players set to play on the next level, starting with running back Travis Custis. In his final season, Custis rushed for 2,118 yards and 35 touchdowns.

After a solid verbal and visit last month, Custis should sign with Georgia Tech today along with teammate and wide receiver Ju’Michael Ramos. The 6-foot-3 wideout had over 900 yards receiving and six TD catches last season.

However, fellow Wildcat Arshad Jackson could surprise some with his decision today after deciding Auburn may not be the best place for him due to the firing of Gene Chizik.

The 6-foot-6 tight end, who caught seven touchdowns last season, took visits to Florida State and Mississippi last month which are both “high” on his list according to

Nathaniel Norwood could be revealing his decision as well today. The defensive lineman had 123.5 tackles – 41 for loss – and 16.5 sacks last season. According to head coach Al Hughes, Norwood could land at Appalachian State or Tennessee-Chattanooga.

The rest of the Wildcats have made pretty solid verbal commitments about where they will be playing next year.

Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield, who passed for 2,575 yards and 30 touchdowns, plans to sign with Tennessee-Chattanooga. Linebacker Zane Fields plans to officially commit to South Carolina State, defensive back Tyrell Brown plans to head to Appalachian State and Veion Robinson (LB) with Middle Tennessee State.

Over at Jonesboro, Cameron Sutton plans to officially sign with Tennessee after a verbal commitment back in August and a visit last month. Fellow cornerback Taurean Ferguson plans to do likewise but with Vanderbilt following a verbal commitment in March and a visit last month.

At Riverdale, linebacker Troy Wyche was interested in playing at Georgia Tech, Indiana, Purdue and Temple but had only received an offer from Indiana.

Over in the South Fulton area, there probably will not be many surprises either.

Tri-Cities offensive linemen Jeremi Hall and Shamire DeVine plan to seal their respective agreements with South Florida and Georgia Tech. Defensive linemen Dominique Threatt and Marcus Adams plan to sign with USF and Western Kentucky, respectively.

Creekside wide receiver Chris Sanders-McCollum had offers from Jackson State, Middle Tennessee and Ohio. Langston Hughes cornerback Joshua Fuller had an offer from Chattanooga and safety Deontez Williams had one from Southern Mississippi.
