The 6-foot-4 junior forward leads the team in scoring with about 21 points a game and has scored in double figures in every contest but one.
Cole has surpassed 20 points in four of his last five games — scoring 24 in a 68-53 victory over Creekview Feb. 2 as well as a 63-62 win over Sequoyah Feb. 1.
He also poured in 25 points in a 72-51 victory over Cambridge Jan. 25 and 26 in a 69-53 win over Forsyth Central Jan. 22.
Cole has had two games of more than 30 points — scoring a season-high 34 in a 66-56 victory over Pope Jan. 18 and 31 in an 84-55 loss to Kell Jan. 4.
“Walter is a scoring machine,” North Springs coach Carlos Cliett said. “He can score points out in the paint. But, he doesn’t just shoot jumpers — he can penetrate and take the ball to the basket.”
However, scoring is only one of the elements that Cole brings to the court, according to Cliett.
“He give us great leadership,” Cliett said. “He wants to win and the other players respond to that. He’s a vocal leader for us.”
