The Pace sophomore took a big leap forward as he won the title in that event in A-AAAAA at the GHSA state swimming and diving championships at Georgia Tech Feb. 8.
Moncino scored 554.35 points to claim the top spot in the 11-dive event and become the first Pace diver to win the state title in the program’s 40-year history.
It was another successful season for Moncino, who won every meet he competed in and set new records in both the six-dive (342.95) and 11-dive (599.95) events.
As a freshman in 2012, he was among the 100 boys’ divers from across the nation who were selected as an All-American by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.
“He showed such maturity as a sophomore,” Pace coach John Ague said. “Last year, he brought more nervousness to the state meet and did a great job as finishing as the state runner-up. All the work he put in was rewarded in the ultimate way. Pace Academy is very proud of him.”
