The Westminster senior closed out her outstanding high school career with a fourth consecutive title in the girls’ 200-yard freestyle, as well as one in the 100 butterfly, to lead the Wildcats to their second straight Class A-AAAAA girls’ team crown at the GHSA swimming and diving championships at Georgia Tech Feb. 9.
Stafford became only the 15th swimmer in Georgia high school history to win four straight titles in the same event.
The Stanford signee won the girls’ 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 45.29 seconds, breaking the state record set by former Westminster standout Elizabeth Hill in 2004. She also achieved All-American status in the 200 freestyle with that time.
She added another state title to her resume with a win in the 100 butterfly, finishing with an All-American time of 53.49 seconds.
“She’s a great swimmer and a great competitor,” Westminster coach Pete Higgins said. “She’s got it all — leadership, talent. We’re going to miss her.”
