The Lady Raiders’ dynamic junior is in the top 10 among DeKalb County players in three statistical categories — a testament to the kind of all-around season she’s put together.
Abney is averaging around 14.5 points, four assists and 5.6 steals per game. What’s more is that those standout individual stats have translated into team success this season for Redan.
The Lady Raiders (23-2) earned a No. 2 seed out of Region 6-AAAA in the GHSA state playoffs after reaching the league title game. Both losses for Redan, set to host Dalton Tuesday, have come at the hands of defending state champ Columbia.
Should she continue her stellar balanced play — impacting games on both ends of the floor — Abney and company just may avenge those losses amidst a long postseason run.
For all her present talent, the mercurial guard still has tremendous upside … a scary thought for opposing coaches and players.
The Redan faithful can take comfort in the knowledge that, regardless of what happens in the state tourney, Abney has another year of eligibility left.
