The sophomore averaged nearly 10 points and 10 rebounds this season for the Lady Cardinals, who fell short of the Class AAAA championship game last Saturday due to a 49-44 setback to Columbia at Fort Valley State.
Prior to this contest, Smith along with senior Kim Dawkins (11 rebounds) was very instrumental in Jonesboro’s win against Howard, finishing with 12 points and nine boards.
“They bang and take pride in getting those offensive and defensive rebounds,” Harris said. “We got a lot of shooters and sometimes our guards put up a lot of shots so they know if they want to score they got to go get a rebound and put it back.”
Smith’s sophomore season was also highlighted by a 27-point, 22-rebound and 10-steal performance against Spalding on Jan. 8.
Smith, who is listed at 5-foot-11, plans to focus on her guard skills this summer to prepare for her true position in college. She has a 3.9 grade-point average and an interest in engineering.
