The North Paulding girls’ soccer team is currently four games into the season, but up until their most recent game against New Manchester they were unable to get a win as they ended the first three games in stalemates.

The Lady Wolfpack defeated the Lady Jaguars 7-1 on Feb. 28. Prior to this victory, North Paulding tied Etowah 3-3 and had scoreless ties against Walton and Wheeler.

After game two, head coach Joel Sullivan said he had been impressed with the team thus far.

“It’s early in the season but I am very impressed with our first two results,” said Sullivan

Sullivan also said he likes to compete against high-quality teams to start and finish the season and he said Etowah and Walton are both “strong 6A teams” which are “loaded with quality players and have quality coaches.”

Four games into last year’s schedule, North Paulding was 3-1, gaining their first victory in their season opener against Etowah 3-1. They eventually advanced to the Sweet 16 of the state tournament.

Even though the record right now does not reflect as many wins as it did at this same point last season, Sullivan said he likes how his team jumped back into the style of play that will enable them to play to their strengths.

“We attack with purpose and are extremely disciplined on defense,” Sullivan said.

On the opposite end, Sullivan also said his girls need to work on their speed.

“Tuning up and improving our speed of play and how we work off the ball,” he said about changes.

This season the Lady Wolfpack has seven seniors on the roster – Sydney David, Mathilda Erickson, Maslyn Greene, Natalie Helbling, Rachel Hybart, Brooke Szoch and Ashton Zaluski. These ladies, according to Sullivan, will play a major role in where the team ends up at the end of the season.

“They provide the leadership and experience we need to achieve our goals this season,” Sullivan said.

As far as goals are concerned with this North Paulding team, Sullivan said his team is striving to make it deeper into the state playoffs than they did last year.

“Our first goal is to win a region championship. We made it to the round of 16 in the state playoffs last season. We’re shooting to go beyond that accomplishment with a trip to the quarterfinals or further,” said Sullivan.
