Spincycle Sports is coordinating the 38.54 mile bike ride throughout the city.
During the two days, three total races will occur, including the time trial and circuit Saturday and the Mayor’s Road Race Sunday.
Day of registration for the time trial will begin at 9 a.m Saturday, followed by circuit registration, at 12:30 p.m.
The cost for both Saturday races is $35 prior to race day online and $45 day of, payable in cash only.
Road race registration begins at 8 a.m. Sunday and is $40 prior to race day online and $50 day of, payable in cash only.
Several categories are available to compete in as well as junior races.
First created in 2004, the then council of Union City came up with the idea for what would later become an annual event that both residents and non-residents participate in year after year.
“The city council saw a unique opportunity to bring a health and wellness event to the community,” said Union City Mayor Ralph Moore. “The race has now evolved into one of the largest bike race weekends in the state of Georgia.”
On average, according to Moore, more than 500 racers participate throughout the race weekend.
The race weekend is important for the city not only for the health and wellness aspect, said Moore, but also because of the emphasis on cycling.
“The race is one of several activities the city makes available to enhance quality of life and to facilitate community cohesion,” said Moore. “I really enjoy the races involving the junior riders. Their passion for cycling is an excellent example for others to follow.”
All participants in the race must fill out a USA cycling and competitive and non-competitive release form.
