Asia Durr’s future is so bright she should keep a pair of sunglasses handy at all times.

The sophomore sensation scored 26 points and hauled in eight rebounds in leading St. Pius X to the GHSA girls’ Class AAA basketball title over the weekend.

The opposition — name a team — simply had no answer for the dynamic Lady Golden Lions guard this season.

“She is really fun to coach because, even with her ability and talent, she is still very coachable — wanting to learn more, wanting to work all the time,” said St. Pius coach Kyle Snipes.

Durr averaged 21 points a game during her sophomore campaign, but her game doesn’t stop there.

“She has the ability to not only score but to also get her teammates involved on the offensive end,” Snipes noted. “And, her ability to defend without fouling allows her to force turnovers and help us get easy baskets.”

Durr’s game is still blossoming … as hard as that may be to believe.

“From just having coached her for two years, the main thing that really stands out with Asia is her work ethic and willingness to get better and keep improving on the talents she has,” said Snipes. “She watches a lot of basketball — both college and pro — and that also helps with the maturation of a player, as much as getting in the gym and working all the time.”
