Hannah Meadows, 17, a senior at Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Buckhead, is disciplined not only in school, but in athletics as well.

Meadows, daughter of Roberta and Todd Meadows, of Sandy Springs, will attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., in the fall.

She has a GPA of 4.6 and is an avid runner, a member of the school’s track and cross country teams, as well as a triathlon athlete.

The student started participating in triathlons seven years ago and became enamored with the sport.

“It’s opened up so many opportunities and experiences for me,” she said. “The sport brings so many people together, which is why I think I’ve done it so long. There’s a huge sense of community and discipline associated with it.”

She is being recruited to run cross country and track for the Naval Academy, but will not know if she makes the teams until the end of summer.

The teen is heavily involved in the community, volunteering at triathlon events, tutoring and participating in clubs at school.

Recently, she and her family have been volunteering at the Mary Hall Freedom House in Sandy Springs.

She is also involved with the Rosary Club at school and is a member of Elder Friends, an organization that devotes time to area seniors in nursing homes by making crafts and spending time at the homes singing and visiting with the patients.

“That’s really hit close to home because my grandma in Philadelphia has Alzheimer’s [disease],” said Meadows. “I think it’s helped me learn how to communicate with her better.”

Meadows recently picked up a new hobby, cooking.

She enjoys making healthy food and has tried a healthy spinach pizza crust, apple peanut butter muffins and even made sushi. Meadows also auctioned off her first cake, a Samoa cake, at the school’s annual event, “Roma.”

“The good thing about cooking is you just keep on learning,” she said. “It’s a good creative outlet.”
