The two candidates vying for the Ward One post on the Forest Park City Council each believe they have what it takes to fill the position, which was vacated by Sparkle Adams who resigned the seat to run for mayor.
The two candidates are Kimberly James and Thomas “Tommy” Smith.
Each candidate was asked why voters should look to them to occupy that seat.
James: “The residents of Forest Park that live in Ward 1 have only two choices in their selection of a city council representative,” she said.
James said she has no doubt her opponent has the best of intentions for residents of that ward but said that, if elected, she will not be a disappointment to her constituents.
“I am not arrogant or quick-tempered and I am not offended, violent and I am not greedy of gain,” James said.
She also described herself as hospitable “and a lover of good and I pride myself in being self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.”
James added she is strong enough to give and receive instruction, “and am also strong enough to give and receive rebuke.”
Smith: “My dedication to this city as a lifelong resident of 55 years is unquestionable,” he said.
“I believe in Forest Park and the immense potential for growth this city possesses.”
He added that he has raised his family in Forest Park and, with no children remaining at home, “I have the time and focus that Forest Park needs.”
