The Sandy Springs Society has been providing the city with gifts, clothes, furniture and household items for 22 years, all the while raising money for the city’s charities with its annual fundraiser, Tossed Out Treasures.

This year’s Tossed Out Treasures include mid-century modern furniture, Oriental furniture, Noritake china, Waterford crystal, designer children’s and women’s clothes and a whole room of items specifically for men called The Man Cave.

There are also two fitness systems and two full rooms of new merchandise donated from businesses.

“It’s a win-win-win situation,” said Carol Anne Hendrix, co-chair of the event. “You get to clean out your attic, find gifts or other things for yourself and help out Sandy Springs.”

This year’s event will be at 7200 Roswell Road in a vacant showroom owned by Sandy Springs Toyota.

The group takes donations for about three weeks before hosting the weekend event. Those who want to get an early start on the thrifting can buy tickets to the preview party Thursday night from 6 to 9 p.m. Along with first pick of the goods, party-goers will be fed an Italian dinner with wine.

Tickets to the party are $25 in advance on the organization’s website or $30 at the door.

No fundraising goal has been set for this year, but the group has raised as much as $60,000 in the past few years.

Some area nonprofits that benefit from the society include Heritage Sandy Springs, the Community Assistance Center and YMCA Prime Time.

All the proceeds will benefit the nonprofits and the event is run only by volunteers. There are 279 members in the society, according to event chair Joan Plunkett.

Plunkett has been involved with the event since its inception 22 years ago.

“We felt it was a way to make some money off of things we had,” she said.

The event has continued to grow each year, and co-chair Anna Bradley said volunteers each day give to charities bags of donated goods they don’t feel would sell.

“There’s absolutely everything you could ever want in here,” she said.
