Fresh off last year’s solid campaign, Woodland is out to make more noise in the world of girls’ tennis play.

First-year coach Brooke Niemeyer has the Lady Wolfpack — who have a 2-1 record heading into this week — appears to have the squad moving in the right direction.

Thus far, Woodland, from its team dynamics to its play on the court, is earning rave reviews from the top down.

“This team is built with a great group of girls,” Niemeyer said. “All have positive attitudes and truly support one another on and off the courts, whether freshman or senior class level.

“They work well together and encourage each other at practices and our matches.”

The Lady Wolfpack are bolstered by the steadying presence of senior stalwart Brianna Griffin.

Rounding out the cast of Woodland standouts are junior Jasmyne Johnson, senior Kelsey Wages, junior Mikayla Martinez, and sophomore Adalynn Rath.

Four of the five were starters on last year’s team, which fought its way to a state playoff berth.

But, that was then.

Still, the Lady Wolfpack coach praised her current unit’s cohesiveness, drive and hustle — strengths that could carry it a very long way.

“Our singles and doubles players contribute to helping us win matches,” Niemeyer said. “We need to keep working hard in practices and continue improving, to win matches and meet our goal.”
