The 2009 flick tells the story of the Tuohy family, which adopts high school student Michael Oher, who becomes an NFL offensive lineman. “The Blind Side” also was filmed at Atlanta International School and the Westminster Schools, both in Buckhead. It stars Sandra Bullock, who won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as Leigh Anne Tuohy, Tim McGraw as her husband Sean and Quinton Aaron as Oher.
Located at 3394 Knollwood Drive in the Tuxedo Park neighborhood, the home has seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and two half baths. According to a news release, it was selected to represent the Tuohy family’s home, located in East Memphis, because it is similar to the tastes of Leigh Anne Tuohy, an interior designer.
Designed by Spitzmiller & Norris, a Buckhead-based firm, the home was built in 2001. Harry Norman Realtors’ Debbie Shay, the agent listing the home, said its owners, Lorri and Forrest McClain, and their two children moved out of the home for six weeks during shooting of the film.
“The production crew was terrific, and the family went over to the house several times to meet the crew and the actors and watch some of the filming,” Shay said. “It was a fun experience for them. They’re all sports fanatics and they loved meeting the actors and the coaches in the film.”
The home includes a gourmet kitchen with a large island and breakfast area, a custom stone wine cellar and tasting room on the terrace level, a spacious family room and large home theater.
“The house has 14,000 square feet, but when you’re in the house, it really feels warm and welcoming,” Shay said. “It’s not one of these cavernous type homes. When you walk in, you feel like you’re home. It can accommodate 300 people for a charity function or 12 for a private dinner, and you feel equally comfortable in it. It has three finished levels, a private back yard, and the home is not [divided] into small rooms. ... The space layout is really good.”
The house has been for sale since early January, and though Shay said she could not comment on whether it has received any offers, she did say it has many potential buyers inquiring about it, including some from as far away as Chicago and New Jersey.
“It’s been a steady stream,” Shay said. “I was surprised at how many buyers there are at this price range. It is getting attention. I’ve had calls from across the country from people asking about the home. It does have appeal from outside the city limits.”
Those with serious inquiries about the house can contact Shay at (404) 814-3058 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to schedule an appointment.
