Held at Kingston Downs in Bartow County, a new attraction at the event is Bartow Village, which will showcase the best the county has to offer.
Bryan Canty, chair for the Bartow Village committee, said the village is a way to localize “the world’s greatest lawn party” and allow the community to make Bartow County synonymous with the tradition of Steeplechase.
“These are real gems in Bartow County’s crown,” Canty said. “It will be an opportunity for cities within Bartow County and businesses to put their best foot forward.”
Bartow Village will consist of 11 “party tents” that display various local businesses and attractions. Tagged as “the gateway to the chase,” Bartow Village highlights include, the Taste of the Chase food court, which features cuisine from local restaurants; interactive displays and activities from Tellus Science Museum and Booth Western Art Museum; free shuttles to and from Bartow Village and the infield at Steeplechase; visual displays of Atlanta Steeplechase history and live music from Atlanta Rhythm Section.
Claudia Laughridge, vice chair for the Bartow Village committee, said this showcase of the county on the back stretch at Atlanta Steeplechase is a way to “ring the cash registers” of businesses in the community.
Although Steeplechase has been a staple for several years in Bartow County, local participation has been minimal, Laughridge said. The Bartow Village hopes to change that.
“We’re not looking to upset the balance of Steeplechase, we just want to showcase our wonderful community and tap into a market that’s in our backyard,” Laughridge said.
Now that Bartow is looking to take an active role, organizers of Atlanta Steeplechase have welcomed the addition of Bartow Village, Laughridge said.
“You can really see the excitement,” Laughridge said.
Canty said Bartow Village is the brainchild of chamber CEO and president Joe Harris Jr. and Atlanta Steeplechase board member Gene Vance, who lives in Bartow County. Bartow Village also will host pre-event activities and post-race activities Canty said.
