Grant Wilmer is certainly a player Holy Innocents’ looks to when it needs a goal.

However, the junior striker is equally adept at setting up a teammate for a score.

As of last Friday, Wilmer led the Golden Bears in assists with 12, while scoring eight goals of her own to rank second on the team in that category.

She scored three goals and dished out two assists to lead Holy Innocents’ to a 7-0 victory over Darlington Feb. 21 and had one goal and two assists in a 10-0 victory over King’s Ridge Christian March 13 as well as contributing two assists in a 2-1 win over Pinecrest Academy last Tuesday.

“She’s great with distribution [of the ball] — definitely not a selfish player,” Holy Innocents’ coach Stephani Kohl said. “She could definitely score a lot more goals, but she is very balanced, very fair.”

Kohl also praises Wilmer’s work ethic and leadership.

“Grant is one of those kids that [gives] 100 percent all of the time in practice and in games,” Kohl said. “She’s a hard worker and she brings a high level of intensity on the field. The girls look up to her; they respect her talent level. They also respect what she brings to practice and in the games.”
