This year, George is making his mark on the singles side.
The junior has taken over the No. 1 singles position for North Springs and has lived up to his new role with a 6-2 record in his individual matches as of last Friday.
George, who teamed up with his brother, Lloyd George — a senior — at No. 1 doubles on the Spartans’ AAA runner-up squad last year, has successfully filled the gap at No. 1 singles left by the graduation of George Mason signee Aaron Capitel.
However, it is his sportsmanship and generosity that impresses his coach, Lisa Myers, the most.
“He is certainly talented, but his equanimity on and off the court sets him apart,” Myers said. “He is courteous and fair to opponents and is never a sore winner. He is supportive of younger and weaker players and a great hitting partner to both boy and girl team members — even if the player is much weaker than he.
