My ideal Doctor is a telemedicine service founded in 2011 and opened in Paulding in 2012, said Account Executive Amy O’Shields. The office is located at 2487 Cedarcrest Road in Acworth where residents can purchase a plan, but not actually see a doctor.
Telemedicine is a medical consultation conducted over the phone or through video calls.
“It [telemedicine] is a fairly new concept for individuals,” she said.
My ideal Doctor is a nationwide company which services 48 states. The group has more than 2 million clients in America, O’Shields said.
Telemedicine is a 24-hour, 365-day service in which clients can speak with a doctor, be diagnosed and even be written a prescription if needed, said Director of Sales David Cloud, in a news release.
“Currently there are over 8 million people in the United States who own a telemedicine plan and that number is expect[ed] to grow to over 40 million by the end of 2015,” Cloud said.
Members of the group pay about $25 a month for family coverage for the service, O’Shields said.
This service is intended to be used for common illnesses for which most residents go to the doctor, such as the flu, cold, sinus problems or allergies, O’Shields said.
“It is not intended to treat emergencies,” she said.
In order to diagnose patients the doctors have a list of questions they ask.
“The questions that the physicians go through are typically going to be more thorough verbally than they would be if you were sitting in a doctor’s office,” O’Shields said.
When a member calls in they will speak to a coordinator who will get some background information, and schedule an appointment for a doctor to call them back or schedule the first available callback time, O’Shields said. A patient is told to give up to three hours for available callback, but the average callback time is 27 minutes, she said.
