The East Paulding track team has several athletes performing among the top finishers in their events. However, one of these athletes has broken several school records and has the No. 1 time in Class 5A.

Senior Jasmine Parham competes for the Raiders in the 300-meter hurdles, the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 relay.

She is currently ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A for the 300-meter hurdles, while being ranked ninth in all classes.

“She’s a great student-athlete and works very hard. She’s our most driven sprinter,” said head coach Alan Daws.

Parham has been a part of this track program since her sophomore year and, since her start, has broken the school record for the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.13 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet.

Most recently, at a four-way meet between Harrison, East Paulding, Allatoona and Kennesaw Mountain at Harrison on March 13, Parham set a new school record for the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.68 seconds.

“That’s like my baby. That’s where my place is,” said Parham.

According to Daws, Parham has been “putting a lot of work in” as she ran cross country and winter track, giving her no time off since January 2012.

Last season, on the 300 hurdles, Daws said Parham was finishing in the 49-second range, but cross country has “increased her strength for track” and he has seen her progress.
