Janel Taggart has been delivering the goods for the Locust Grove varsity soccer program quite some time now.

The dynamic senior has developed into a formidable force since her freshman days.

Primarily a forward, the “adaptable” Taggart is known for making seamless transitions in-game to play center midfield.

“She impacts the matches because she knows exactly where she needs to be on the field when the ball is in play,” said Lady Wildcats coach Barbara Rape. “She is great with follow-ups when the ball is crossed in from a wing player.

“She isn’t afraid to make contact with an opponent in order to win possession of the ball.”

Taggart’s game was strengthened long ago by an infusion of intangibles.

“She impacts her team because of her dedication and drive to always give 100 percent,” said Rape. “She’s one of three captains that I have this year … she gives advice to the team as a whole and works hard to keep the team in a positive spirit.”

Taggart will begin suiting up for Wesleyan College in the fall.

That’ll merely be the next chapter in a long career — spanning recreational, club and indoor soccer stints.

Said Rape: “She is talented and understands the dynamics of the game and how it changes throughout the duration of the game.”
