Mill Springs Academy’s Upper School Principal Bruce Brownlow has decided to retire. Brownlow is an 18-year veteran of the school. He and his wife, Marie, will retire to their north Georgia lake house.

Brownlow said this was “a very difficult decision to make,” but knows it is right for his family. Brownlow will continue his part-time educational counseling relationship with Parkaire Consultants.

Cynthia Traylor has been named Principal of the Upper School beginning on August 1, in time for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Traylor has been onboard at the school since 2000 as Assistant Principal and is well prepared for this move, having filled in for extended times during Brownlow’s medical leave.

She has successfully developed and managed the summer school program and organized and established a diversity program that has been implemented school-wide.

Headmaster Robert Moore and Traylor are developing goals for the role of assistant principal so the ideal candidate is also in place by the first of the new school year.

The school is a values-based educational community dedicated to the academic, physical and social growth of those students who have not realized their full potential in traditional classroom settings. For more information, visit or call Cheri Harwood, communications director, at (770) 360-1336.
