Paulding County law enforcement officials have charged a Dallas woman with murdering her husband and torching their house last weekend.

Jeanie Rebecca Caldwell, 59, was charged with felony murder and arson in the death of Billy Gene Caldwell, 64, of 194 Old Hiram Road, stated a release from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Caldwell's body was found in the remains of the home Saturday after the Paulding County Fire Department responded to a 4 p.m. report of a fire.

"When firefighters arrived, they immediately began efforts to extinguish the fire. Once firefighters entered the residence they discovered a body inside the burnt structure," a release from the Paulding County Sheriff's Office stated.

At that point, detectives with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Calhoun Regional Office and investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene.

Investigators interviewed witnesses and family members and determined the victim was Billy Gene Caldwell. An autopsy confirmed Caldwell’s death was a homicide.

Investigators searched a wooded area near the house where they found Jeanie Rebecca Caldwell, the release stated.

Mrs. Caldwell was subsequently charged with

felony murder and arson in connection with her husband's death.

She is currently being held in the Paulding County Detention Center in Dallas without bond.
