The South Paulding girls’ track team won the Paulding County Championships on March 28. Of the athletes that competed, the standout performer was Jazmine Burse.

At the county meet Burse finished first in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 7 inches, her personal best. Burse also placed first in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.44 seconds; and placed third in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 9 inches.

Only a sophomore, Burse also competes in the 200-meter sprint, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.

According to head coach Joseph Scott, Burse has been running track for seven years, since she was 9 years old.

“Jazmine has been dedicated to the sport for several years now, but she has taken her excitement about the sport to another level after her success from last season as a freshman,” said Scott.

Her personal best in the hurdles is 15.31, achieved at the Jaguar Relays in Douglasville on March 16, placing first. Her personal best in the shot put is 30-0, also placing first at the Jaguar Relays.

“Jazmine’s skill level is that of the elite athletes in our state who are in the class of 2015,” he said.

She also is approaching nationally-ranked times in some competitions according to the Milesplit.com standards, Scott said.

The coach said Burse is a “very athletic and competitive” athlete, a “well respected leader” and a “tremendous team player” that any team only rarely sees.

“I am honored to have her on our team and I hope that she continues to stay humble and competitive and she will see great things happen for her,” said Scott.
