In a news release, the Sandy Springs-based Susan G. Komen for the Cure Greater Atlanta Affiliate Monday announced Cati Diamond Stone has joined the organization as executive director, effective April 1. Stone, a breast cancer survivor, brings with her a passion for the cause and years of experience in the nonprofit, corporate and legal sectors. She replaces Justine Boyd, who resigned late last year.

Komen Atlanta is the largest private funding organization of breast cancer support in Georgia and strives to bridge the gap between healthcare disparities in the community. Since its inception in 1991, Komen Atlanta has raised more than $35 million to enable women to detect and survive breast cancer.

In her most recent role, Stone served as the director of development and community outreach for Cancer Legal Line, a Minnesota nonprofit providing no-cost legal services to those affected by cancer. Prior to her work at Cancer Legal Line, Stone served as assistant general counsel at the Fortune 500 Nash Finch Co. in Minneapolis. She began her career as litigation and corporate counsel at Unisource Worldwide Inc. headquartered in Atlanta. Stone has also practiced with law firms in Georgia and Alabama.

“We are excited to welcome this outstanding professional to the Komen Atlanta staff,” said Kim Hartsock, Komen Atlanta’s board president. “As a breast cancer survivor, she is dedicated to Komen Atlanta’s mission to enable women to detect and survive breast cancer. Her professional experience and passion for women battling breast cancer will prove to be invaluable assets to the organization.”

Stone was raised in Guntersville, Ala. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern Mississippi and received her law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Stone will reside in Atlanta with her husband and 4-year-old daughter.
