With a 13-6 record the South Paulding baseball team has gone 9-2 in their last 11 games, including win streaks of six and three games apiece.

Of the players on the team, head coach Pecos Galamore named James Maxwell as the standout player for his athletic performance and his character.

“He’s the type of kid that can make a good team great,” Galamore said.

A senior shortstop, Maxwell has played baseball for South Paulding since his freshman year and began playing varsity as a junior, making progress since he started.

“He was a skinny kid but he grew into his body and became very athletic. He’s a learner,” said Galamore.

Maxwell began the season later than other players because is also on the basketball team, but Galamore said he has been a leader and very consistent on offense and defense.

“He’s one of our top guys. He makes quick adjustments and he’s very coachable. Added with the type of kid he is, he’s going to bring a lot of positives. I've never seen him have a negative emotion. The coaches and players love him,” Galamore said.

According to Galamore, Maxwell has had multiple games with multiple hits.

Maxwell hits fifth in the lineup and Galamore said he’s there to knock in the guys that hit before him.

As a senior, Maxwell is interested in playing baseball at the collegiate level and Galamore said he currently has several schools looking at him as a middle infielder.
