Jordan Flowers came through with his first state track and field championship last year — winning the Class AA boys’ 1,600-meter run.

The Westminster junior is now looking to bring home another state title or two after sweeping the distance events at the Region 6AA meet April 18.

Flowers won the 1,600 with a time of 4 minutes, 30.86 seconds and the 3,200 at 10:10.63.

While specializing in the distance events, Flowers helps out the team in other events as well, Westminster coach Geoffrey Sudderth said.

“I think one of the things that stands out about Jordan is his versatility,” Sudderth said. “He is, obviously, the region champion in the 1600 and 3200, but he could have easily run the 800. He’s run 1:59 in the 800. We’re fortunate to have some depth in the 800, but he could have participated in any of those three events. He also runs one of the legs on our [1,600-meter relay] team.

“You’ve got a young man who’s a distance guy, but he’s doing anywhere from the 400 to the 3,200. So, that speaks volumes about how versatile an athlete he is.”

Flowers also won the AA boys’ cross country crown as a sophomore in 2011.
