The foundation continues to build on its mission of removing financial barriers to emerging members of the visual arts community in their higher education pursuits. The annual gala is the primary means of foundation awareness and fundraising for scholarships that will support the community’s art student winners in the exploration and achievement of their full creative potential.
Featured artwork comes from local art organizations and well-known local artists. Area high school seniors are encouraged to participate in the art competition and will have their work prominently displayed at the event.
The foundation will select the winners and these students will receive scholarships from the foundation. For the first time, the Spruill Center for the Arts in Dunwoody and WonderRoot in Midtown, two well-known arts organizations, have joined Mason Murer as the foundation’s artistic partners.
“We are absolutely thrilled that the Spruill Center and WonderRoot are joining us to make the JSALF Art for a Cause Gala a truly community wide event. Now, high school juniors and seniors from the entire Metro Atlanta region will have the opportunity to submit their artwork and compete for our college scholarships” said Andee Shapiro, the foundation’s co-founder and chair.
During the gala, artwork will be on display in a silent auction format. A portion of all winning bid proceeds will go to support the foundation. With the dollars raised at the gala and through additional donations, the foundation fulfills its primary mission of awarding scholarships to qualifying senior high school students who wish to pursue a continued education in the visual arts.
The foundation will also award grant money and/or art supply products to qualifying organizations in need, which in turn helps foster a vibrant local visual arts community. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door and include heavy hors d’ouvres, beer and wine.
