In a news release, Heritage Sandy Springs Monday announced its newest concert series, Rhythm & Brews.

The series was sparked by the success of its previous happy-hour, monthly music series, Wind Down Wednesdays, which lasted five years, and by growing audience request to present more regional acts. Rhythm & Brews embraces regional roots, presenting four acts in a variety of musical genres.

Each month features a performance of both up-and-coming and established artists whose origins are deeply rooted in the region. The open-air concerts are held May through August on the last Thursday of each month at the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn at Heritage Green, 6110 Bluestone Road.

“We are so excited to of-fer this revamped happy-hour series to area residents and friends,” Heritage Special Events Director Rebekah Henry Murphy said. “Rhythm & Brews not only celebrates the sounds of the region, but also presents an opportunity for audiences, young and not so young alike, to kick back and gather on summer evenings after work.”

Murphy also said attendance Wind Down Wendesdays was strong but not increasing, adding the response from residents planning to go to this year's concerts has been good.

The 2013 series lineup is:

o May 30 — Seven Handle Circus: this string band recently opened for Grammy Award-winning Mumford and Sons at the Fox Theatre in Midtown.

o June 27 — von Grey: this indie-folk band of four sisters ages 12 to 18 has performed on national shows such as “The Late Show with David Letterman” and “Conan.”

o July 25 — The Dead-fields: this Atlanta-based Americana/folk-rock outfit has been compared to the Randy Rogers Band, the Old 97s and the Avett Brothers.

o Aug. 29 — Old You: this band mixes jazz, blues and acid rock and is led by female vocalist Young-Mi Feldsott.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with the concerts from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Admission is $5 for ages 21 and up, $2 for ages 13 to 20 and free for children 12 and under. Blankets, picnics and coolers are welcomed. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots.
