Of all the great athletes on this team, Alyssia Lowers was chosen as the standout player as she scored one of the first half goals in the May 2 victory.
Lowers is a sophomore striker for the Lady Panthers and has started since her freshman year. Over the two seasons, head coach Christopher Watts said he cannot find the words to describe her progress.
“She was a heck of a player before she got here and she’ll be a heck of a player after she leaves. Her skills were already developed,” said Watts.
This season Lowers has scored 38 goals and has 19 assists, scoring in almost every game and leading the team in goals along with junior striker Shayy Crawford.
Watts described Lowers as a quiet, polite and coachable player, even though he said “she probably knows more about soccer than [he’ll] ever know.” Watts also said she fits in very well with the team.
Lowers has also played for the Elite Clubs National League for a year, getting the opportunity to play in multiple states. She is currently on the Concorde Fire U16 team.
“She is a fantastic player and plays at a very high level,” Watts said.
On the field, Watts said Lowers is one of the players that has had a number of hat tricks — three goals in a game — and her style of play is more about finesse, saying “she can dribble around three defenders easily.”
